Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that
followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)

Oíche Na Féile Bríde - Altú Bia

[St. Brigid's Eve - Thanksgiving of the meal]

A Bhríd ban-naomh, bean na bratóige buí,
ar choimrí a géaga gile dúinn
ón mbéile seo go dtí an béile arís.
Ar choimrí Dé agus Bhríd' ban-naomh dúinn.
Bríd Ní Dhubhthaigh a chuireann an long
go réidh chuig poirt,
ar a coimrí sin dúinn féin
ós léi féin an oíche anocht. (1)
St. Brigid, woman of the golden mantle,
in the protection of her (bright) white limbs
from this meal to the next.
In the protection of God and St. Brigid.
Brigid, daughter of Dubhthach, who puts the ship
smoothly to port,
in her protection to us
Since it is her night tonight.
Prayer from "Ár bPaidreacha Dúchais"
